don't know much about Hewlett and I have a regular DVD player cuz I don't want to have to sit in my computer chair to watch a movie. But go down to the post that says Scary and check it out. Don't give up too soon, keep watching.

I've never had one but I have heard some horror stories about HP and Compaq...those two seem to have the most problems...
Although I used a Compag Presario cheepie thoughout college with no major problems...The current leaders seem to be Gateway with more bang for the buck...you can get a complete system for $599 that includes monitor and CDRW. see http://www.gateway.com/index.shtml
for more info...
Also the Dell seems to be very popular with the under $1000 system...
No matter what you get, you can be certain it will be obsolete in 4 months anyway...good luck...

Now Sofa...as long as you don't hold me legally responsible if you get one and something goes wrong with it I'll tell you Hewlett Packard has always put out a good quality piece of merchandise.
However if you are looking for a Top Notch Computer go with Dell.
Hold out on the DVD player. The DVD Burner are going to drop in price drastcally in the next year.

Well crap.. it's 2 against 2 here..
These are the stats.
512MB SyncDRAM MEMORY
60GB Hard Drive
16X CD-RW
16X DVD-Rom
Intel Direct AGP 3D Graphics
56K V.90 Modem; 10/100NIC
4USB
Polk Audio Speakers.
That's just the Cpu.. for $749.99
All I need is the computer, I don't need the moniter or anything like that.
Now.. tell me tell me what all this means and if I could find a better deal somewhere else for the same amount of memory and stuff.
I need to figure this out this week sometime, I gotta order this for my mom and she wants something really good and reasonable.
She doesn't need the top of the line 1500 cpu or anything.. SO HELP.

I think that sounds like a good deal... and I don't worry about upgrading them anymore.... I just plan on a new one like every two years!
I mean they really are moving in to the disposable world!
